Awadagin Pratt

When Awadagin Pratt bounded onto the stage for his winning presentation at the prestigious Naumburg International Piano Competition in 1992, he became the first African-American classical instrumentalist to win first prize in this international competition. When Awadagin appeared on the 2005 Summer Concert Series, press hailed his “keen musicianship” and ability to “hurl Jovian keyboard thunderbolts with apparent ease.” An Angel/EMI recording artist, Awadagin challenges the classical music establishment and fans alike, forcing them to rethink the way the music is perceived and heard. With Joshua Bell and Sharon Isbin, Mr. Pratt was appointed by the President’s Committee on the Arts and the Humanities for last November’s White House performance. For his 2010 Summer Concert Series recital, Awadagin brings us works of Brahms, Mompou, Schumann and Liszt. You’ll be dazzled by Awadagin for the first time or all over again! “One of the best young pianists on the international scene. flawless technique and intense emotional involvement..” The Washington Post

Crazy Mary by A R Gurney.
This poignant play centers on Mary, a middle aged woman who has been living in a sanitarium for over 30 years after her wealthy family had her committed.  Entering the scene is Lydia, a distant cousin who has been designated as Mary's legal guardian.  She visits Mary with her son, Skip, an unhappy college student at Harvard.  What follows is a culture clash between the buttoned-down Lydia and the long forgotten Mary, who might have a second chance at a life outside the sanitarium.

10 tickets available for TCPC members.
